Sustainability
Our Approach
Inner Relm is a family run business by everyday people, just like you, who enjoy the beauty of our beaches, oceans and the entire natural world. Appreciating this beautiful planet and understanding how we all play a part in its future is the driving force behind our efforts to create sustainable and timeless pieces you will love for a lifetime.
We believe in constantly improving our footprint across every aspect of our business in order to not only reduce our footprint but ultimately to improve the world and environment we live in for generations to come.
Design and materials
Swimwear
Every single piece of Inner Relm swimwear is made with recycled fabrics. By recovering waste plastic bottles and regenerating them into a safe and stretchy recycled fabric, we are proud that we can bring you groovy swimwear from waste plastic. You can be proud knowing your new swimwear has just saved some plastic bottles from entering the landfill.
Wetsuits
We use high quality Limestone rubber in an effort to avoid the use of petrochemical based neoprene. By using superior quality materials we also help extend the lifespan of your wetsuit, reducing the number of wetsuits you will use in your lifetime. We also offer a "recycle your old wetsuit" system so you can feel good knowing we offer full loop recycle offer for those old wetsuits regardless of the brand (yes we accept any brand). See the bottom of page for details.
Clothing
We are constantly researching and implementing more sustainable fabrics and practices for our clothing range. This is why we currently are using Hemp fabric in some of our clothing collection. Hemp is a natural fibre that grows readily and quickly reducing the need for harsh chemicals and pesticides in the growth phase. Hemp also requires a relatively small amount of land to cultivate and produces up to double the fibre yield per hectare than cotton. Astonishingly, hemp also returns up to 60-70% of the nutrients it takes form the soil making it our first choice in materials for clothing and some boardshorts. We also use organic cotton where possible in lieu of hemp.
Suppliers
We only engage with suppliers that believe in the same practices as what we believe. That means they should have ethical and fair work practices as well as a conformity with their legal environmental procedures. We do not support suppliers that do not share these values to ensure our pieces never have or will ever be made by any children or forced labour in unfair conditions. We believe all workers must be paid fairly, work fair hours and receive the legal amount of holiday time in a safe working environment.
Packaging
All our packaging we deliver to you is biodegradable or recycled. We choose to use corn & wheat based product bags that decompose within 2-3 months as opposed to traditional plastic bags that can take up to 1000 years to decompose. For durable ling distance packages we use biodegradable or recycled poly bags to ensure we aren't adding to the plastic problem by using virgin plastic. Our swing tags and care cards are made with paper or cardboard and are often made with post consumer recycled paper.
